DC’s unique blend of honoring ceremonies, parades, concerts, memorials, and vibrant activities pay tribute to the selfless service of our active duty military and veterans, while also celebrating the season ahead. Join us as we explore the top events happening in the city during Memorial Day Weekend 2024.

Rally for Vets at Rolling to Remember

Rolling to Remember is held to raise awareness about the critical issues veterans face every day, and as a tribute to those missing in action and prisoners of war. This important event aims to deliver a message to Congress and the American people that veterans are in need of assistance, as the group struggles with a suicide crisis. This motorcycle rally begins on Friday, May 24, at 5 pm with a Blessing of the Bikes on the Washington National Cathedral followed by at 9 pm Candlelight Vigil at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Ride day happens Sunday, May 26 with the National Anthem at 11:50 am and the Demonstration Ride beginning at noon. Everyone is welcome to join the Vigil at the LIncoln Memorial after the ride. Get the full details on the event website for registration, scheduling and attendance info for this year’s procession.

Salute the Sacrifice at the National Memorial Day Concert

The PBS National Memorial Day Concert is a heartfelt tribute to the sacrifice made by the men and women in uniform, as well as their families. This free annual concert will be aired on PBS from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Sunday, May 26 at 8 p.m. Hosted by actors Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna, the event will feature numerous celebrity performers. Can’t make it in person? The concert will also be live-streamed online and available on-demand for two weeks after the performance.

Attend the Iconic National Memorial Day Parade

Beginning at 2 pm on Monday, May 27th, the epic National Memorial Day Parade presented by Boeing makes its return to Constitution Avenue. Created as a powerful tribute to call attention to the true meaning of the holiday – honoring our fallen heroes – the parade will feature personal stories as a reminder of the price of our freedom. This not-to-be-missed event features live historical re-enactors, veterans, and active duty military personnel, as well as musical performances and celebrity appearances. While the parade will take place in person in Washington, it will also be filmed for a special television broadcast titled “Our Sacred Honor: An American Salute,” airing on ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox stations nationwide. Together, these events commemorate the timeless values of service and sacrifice that have bound Americans together throughout history. Learn more about the event here

Pay Your Respects at National Mall Memorials

What makes DC so unique and truly a special spot for Memorial Day weekend is not only the festivities but the National Mall memorials. Honor American servicemen and women by visiting the magnificent National World War II Memorial and its amazing effervescent fountain. Pay your respects at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Vietnam Women’s Memorial. Admire the steely faces of the 19 servicemen depicted in the Field of Service at the Korean War Veterans Memorial. Lastly, visit  the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial as a solemn and powerful reminder of the very human cost of war. We hope you are touched and grateful for your country and its brave servicemen this Memorial Day Weekend.

Cheers to Summer 2024 at a DC Rooftop

Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of summer, making it the perfect time to gather your crew and head to one of DC’s scenic rooftop bars. Scattered throughout the city’s neighborhoods, these rooftop bars offer craft cocktails and delicious bar bites. Some of our favorites include the outstanding views of Top of the Gate at The Watergate Hotel, the whiskey connoisseur haven of Jack Rose Dining Saloon, and Takoda, the beer garden and rooftop bar in Shaw DC.

Welcome the Season at Georgetown’s Waterfront

Historic Georgetown’s waterfront offers a number of excellent restaurants, including Sequoia, Tony and Joe’s Seafood Place, Nick’s Riverside Grill, and Farmers Fishers Bakers, which offer patio seating during the warmer months. In addition to dining options, there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. During the summer, both children and adults can cool off by splashing in the sprinkler-style water fountain, watch the boats passing by, and even feed the ducks.

Kick Off Summertime Dining at a DC Outdoor Patio

Enjoy the sun and kick off the summer with a  dining experience at one of the District’s charming outdoor patios. Experience the sophistication of Opaline, the rustic vibes of Lupo Verde, and tasty craft brews at Right Proper Brewing Company’s Shaw Brewpub & Kitchen.
