Best Places to Watch Fireworks in DC

fireworks in DC on the 4th of July

The 4th of July in the Nation’s capital is an experience like no other! The energy of the day in a place like Washington, DC is something no short of amazing. As such, we’ve created a list of the best places to watch fireworks in DC this Independence Day. From famous landmarks to rooftop bars, we’re covering it all!

Overview of the Display

The 4th of July fireworks display is put on by the National Park Service every year, and this year is no different. The display is scheduled to commence at 9:09 p.m, on Monday, July 4. Fireworks will be launched from both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

Famous Landmarks

Watching the fireworks from a National landmark is one of the best ways to take in the show without a doubt. Some of the best landmarks to watch the display from include the U.S Capitol, the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court, the National Cathedral, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial.

Landmarks Across the River

While watching the show from any of the above-mentioned landmarks is absolutely amazing, those locations can become quite crowded during an event like the 4th of July. A few lesser-known options across the Potomac include the US Marine Corps War Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Navy-Merchant Marine Memorial.

On the Potomac

There are a number of great parks on the river where you can find a spot and enjoy the show with family or friends. Some great parks to consider include Lady Bird Johnson Park, Georgetown Waterfront Park, Anacostia Park, and Potomac Park. Wanna grab a bite while enjoying the show? Reserve a spot at Farmers Fishers Bakers or Tony and Joe’s Seafood!

Family-Friendly Firework Cruise

Experiencing the fireworks on a riverboat cruise, with the lights reflecting off the water, makes for an extra special experience. Here are some of the top-rated riverboat cruise companies

Rooftop Bars

If you’re looking to enjoy the show with a drink, you’re in luck! DC is home to a number of rooftop bars with panoramic views of the city. Some of our favorites are VUE at Hotel Washington, Conrad Hotel’s Summit rooftop, La Vie, and Top of the Gate at the Watergate Hotel.

Cardozo High School

While this option may seem a bit odd, Cardozo High School is actually a fairly popular spot to take in the show. The school is situated on a hill that offers amazing views!

National Mall

The National Mall is one of the most popular locations to take in the firework show on the 4th in DC. Experiencing the display from this location is sure to be profound. However, this spot is extremely popular, so we just want to warn you of the large crowds you’ll encounter. If this is something you’re ok with, then do it! Just be prepared to get there early to snag a spot.

If you would like additional recommendations or have any lingering questions, don’t hesitate to reach out!
