Curb Appeal- the MUST for Selling Your Home!

Curb appeal is a huge deal in marketing your home for sale. Buyers tend to make a decision about whether they like a home within the first 30 seconds of being there. Those 30 seconds can literally be used up walking up to your front door. Here are some great ideas to take your curb appeal to its next level!

  1. 1. Fix

Buyers do not want to see gutters filled to the brim or cracked and leaking, leaking outdoor spouts, broken screen door, non functioning outdoor lights, cracked or loose hand rails, broken or chipped concrete steps or front patio, loose or rotted floor boards of a front porch, door bells that do not work and anything else that shouts to them “This will cost money to fix!” or “This home hasn’t been taken care of!”
Make sure you take the time to fix up these minor but annoying fixes before putting your home on the market. You may not notice that leaky spout but it will definitely distract a potential buyer walking up to your home.

2. Paint

Paint can make a home look fresh, clean, taken care of and even bigger! Make a statement and paint your front door a vibrant red or a classy hunter green. Paint the shutters to match while you are at it! Make sure hand rails, columns, and house siding paint is not peeling or chipping. Freshen the whole outer appearance with a new coat.

3. Landscape

A well manicured lawn can be the envy of the neighborhood. Make sure your grass is cut, the weeds are pulled, the bushes are pruned, and any plants are watered and thriving. You can also cut low branches from any trees in your front yard to help your home be more visible from the road.

4. Decorate

Help your home stand out in the buyer’s mind by making a statement with your décor. Depending on the season you can put an eye catching seasonal wreath on the front door. Add a patio chair set, swing, or even just a small bench to show buyers there is room on the front porch for one. Plant flowers up the walkway or hanging pots from the porch.
In the summer, set out a pitcher of lemonade and glasses on your front patio table with chairs. Put a hammock in the trees. These little things can help a buyer make an emotional connection when they think “Oh I could see myself sitting out here with my morning coffee and the newspaper.”
