Get some Free and Honest Advice

Enlist the help of a friend who will be honest with you about your home, decor, furniture arrangements and paint colors, without sparing your feelings. It is easy to get too personally attached to the way your home has been decorated or lived in while you have been in it. But selling your home is a business transaction and should be bad paint choiceapproached as such! Detach yourself and ask an honest friend to tell you what sticks out or should be addressed before listing your home. Not only is this free, but they may offer to help!!

This hot pink and blue may have been fun for your little girls room but now it is a total distraction for a buyer. They will only remember your house as the one with the hot pink arch… not the one with the beautiful light filled rooms!

Pack %50 of Your Stuff
To you, it may be a sweet rocking horse collection but to someone else it is clutter that detracts from the bones of your house!  Get rid of the collections, extra sweaters in the closet, all those bikes in the garage, and definitely your rooster decor in the kitchen! Decluttering your home is THE most cost effective and best return on your investment that you can do before listing your house!

declutter
Our clients did a great job decluttering this kitchen before listing. It is a small condo kitchen but because the counters are completely clear- it looks bigger and like there is plenty of workable space!

Getting rid of half your stuff may seem like a big job, and it is! But it has so many benefits! It helps your home look bigger! It makes your storage space look more adequate! It helps buyers see the home at its best and not be distracted by clutter! It makes it easier for you to clean up before a showing- less stuff= less to clean up! It helps neutralize a space! When there are are 3 candles on a shelf instead of 12 collectible bobble heads  It even helps you get a head start on your packing!  Your home should show as a model home!

This will help you get an idea of what you should get rid of or pack up! Look at  how clean and clear their kitchen counters are! Wow! All the beds are made?!? No toys in sight?  Neutral paint and decor in every room? “Hmm, maybe I should paint my lime green bathroom grey…” Yes, yes you should.

You want your house to show like it could be anyone’s home, not the family with 3 kids under 6 because toys and spare socks are EVERYWHERE! Take the “personality” out of your home and make it look like a neutral house! That may sound boring to you but a buyer wants to be able to picture their stuff in the house, not be distracted by your stuff!

It’s a great time to sell your house. The inventory is still low and buyers are out in full force in the Spring market. If you are looking to buy or sell in the Northern Virginia area, please give our team a call! We would love to help you find your dream home!
